Being a Tamashii Web exclusive release it comes in a brown shipper box, nice to have and great for protecting the actual packaging inside. I like the fact that Bandai has used the blue and orange colour theme of the character on the packaging, really gives it a bit more personality. The packaging itself is pretty standard as far as S.H.Figuarts toys goes, it’s got a nice window in the front for collectors who like to keep their toys MISB and still enjoy seeing the figure inside.
Vegetto comes with an abundant amount of accessories, mostly in the facial expression department but it makes for great posing scenarios. In normal mode Vegetto gets a looking side ways while screaming face but I would have preferred the eyes to be looking straight forward instead. In Super Saiyan mode he gets a stern face, a looking side ways smirk face and a looking forward screaming face. Vegetto gets a pair of claw hands, a pair of open palm hands and karate chop right hand which is used as an insert into the spirit sword effect part. Lastly he also comes with a folded arm part, for this you have to pop the two arms off at the biceps and replace with the folded arm part. Although it looks great it was kind of scary to do so I don’t think I’ll be popping these on and off too much in the future.
In the cartoon and manga Vegetto is about the same height has Goku which makes sense that Bandai has recycled Goku’s body for this release. There are new sculpts here including the gloved hands and boots. The head is also a complete new sculpt, the hair is finer than Goku’s and shaped more like Vegeta’s. Overall I’d say this is a pretty accurate depiction of Vegetto in toy form. In terms of overall proportion I think Vegetto actually looks better than the Goku figure he is based off, having a slightly smaller head.
Being based off the Goku figure, the articulation is exactly the same. Vegetto features double jointed neck with an additional tilt at the base of the neck, ball jointed shoulders with a tilt joint at the deltoids, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, universal wrists, side to side diaphragm joint, ball jointed waist with height extension, ball jointed hips with height extension, double jointed knees, ball jointed ankles and a toe joint.
Overall the paint app of Vegetto is very good but I did find a couple of places that is lacking. The face is well painted with very sharp detail in the eyes, even the earring is well done despite the size. Vegetto’s clothes doesn’t seem to have any low lights or high lights applied so it does look a bit flat. There is subtle high lights applied to the gloves and boots. The area where I found a bit of sloppy paint is at the back of the neck, not only are there paint chips, the colour matching is also pretty terrible. Luckily this is at the back so you don’t really see it that much.
Bandai did a great job in capturing the likeness of Vegetto, as can be seen when compared with the Goku and Vegeta figures from the same line. Of course just like the Goku figure, he is dwarfed in comparison with Broly, who is still my favourite of the S.H.Figuarts Saiyan toys. S.H.Figuarts toys are usually shorter than the standard 6″ Marvel Legends toys but pack much more in the small frame, of course they also cost quite a bit more.
I’m definitely not a completist when it comes to toy collecting, I mainly collect only figures that I really like and I do like this Vegetto figure a lot. Even though most of the toy is recycled from an older toy there is enough new parts for it to feel completely different. The Dragon Ball Z toys from the S.H.Figuarts line have exploded in popularity in recent years which makes the secondary market price for these things go up quite quickly. Being a Tamashii Web limited edition there is also very little chance of re-issue unlike the normal Goku, Gohan and Piccolo figures which have all been reissued at least once. Do yourself a favour, if you intend on collecting this line, go and buy this figure now at normal RRP before stock runs out and the prices go up!
